Heya fellow WCC members! Sorry for not blogging for quite a long time, I am just super busy with my new university stuff :c

But I haven't forgotten you and I kinda miss the times when I posted polls and we had endless discussions on these, about the most random stuff ever (nostalgia!). But we also got a lot of new members who - I bet - would love to interact with all the awesome people here.

So, to anyone who is a bit bored right now, I got some ideas what we can do to fresh things up :D You can comment here and SHOUT for attention! Other members may see your comment and interact with it. Cool idea, huh ;D

So this is what you could do:

SHOUT for an art trade with a fellow member
Just post a comment saying you would like to do a Warriors art trade! Maybe post a link to some works of yours and you surely will find someone who would love to do an art trade!

SHOUT for a discussion
Just get a controversial topic up (it could concern Warriors) and people can reply and discuss with you about it. It can be a lot of fun, discussing your favourite characters, Warriors artists, whether there should be a movie made about Warriors, and so on.

SHOUT for the attention of a WarriorCatsClaim admin
Got improvements or suggestions for this group? Just tell us! I will go through all the comments and of course reply. It is important to stay close to all the members.

As a side note, to everyone who is impatiently waiting for another collaboration or a contest... I don't have the time to run one right now. If this group stays active the next months there definitely will be another big event soon in the future but not until further notice, sorry :(

Now have fun ;D

In past tests, cats appeared to distinguish between the low to mid light wave spectrum (higher frequency), meaning cats responded to the colors purple, blue, green and yellow range. Red, orange and brown colors appear to fall outside cats color range and are most likely seen as shades of gray or purple. Cats appear to see less saturation in colors than do humans, meaning cats do not see colors as intensely or vibrantly. Blue and green appear to be the strongest colors perceived by cats.

I copied that from wikianswers. But my point is, in the books, cats can see all the colors we can. I mean, I know it's fiction and the cats are like humans in a cat's body, but still ... it's interesting to think about.

I've thought of that before, and I think it would be a really interesting experiment for an author to write in an animal's point of view more realistically than the norm do. :'D The problem with writing that way is it would seem a bit bland and boring to the readers because a very common and effective way to express emotion or get a clear picture of something is through color. It's a difficult task when you have a limited number of colors that, let's face it, aren't very interesting while you're trying to portray something that you think could be amazing.

It's also similar with noises and tastes. Technically no one knows specifically what a cat hears, tastes, smells, ect. so it's mainly a guessing game. I think Erin Hunter has done a decent job giving us the perspective of a cat all this time. :)

Have you ever read White Fang? I remember it being written from the wolf's point of view, with a lot of effort taken by the author to capture the essence of what it's like to know nothing about the world and have to learn it by just watching and experience, as animals do.

I think the Erins have done great too, I especially connect with the cats' body language!

No I haven't 8O It sounds interesting. ^^ I'm not super into wolfy things though, which is probably why. xD However that does sound cool!

Oh yeah! 8D They must've spent, like, day watching cats move to get all their stuff right. xD I love the training sessions between the apprentices, those are always really interesting to hear about 8O

It is an interesting read, I think we had to read it in 5th grade? Maybe another year I'm not sure but anyways it was a really eye-opening perspective  And I don't care as much for wolves either (and I was really disappointed with The Sight ): ) but I think it's worth a read, at least from the part where White Fang is born and has to discover how to see and who his family is and just how to be a wolf. It's a neat perspective. :3

And yes, that's definitely one of the main things that compelled me to keep reading Warriors when I first started it! Their body language is so interesting yet intuitive :D

Ah yes, I thought of that too. Also when the cats mention things that are sweet, which is inaccurate because cats don't seem to have receptors that respond to sweetness.

I remember in one of the later books (Power of Three?) they corrected that in a way and had the cats express that honey tasted like nothing, so I guess the Erins at some point must have had a kind of learning session about cat's sensory abilities. But again, it's just fiction- they also have poltergeist ancestors and a spoken language xD

It is interesting to think about all that! What I always think of is: if they can draw (with their claws they etch shapes and maps into the ground sometimes), what's to stop them from making a written language of sorts? o:

And they put sweet in the name of some cats, which is interesting, as if they can't taste sweet would they even know what it is?

It think it's Power of Three, yeah.

I've thought about that as well. I thought of making some sort of fanfic about it, but never had the time.

Yeah, I guess it was an oversight. But they've kept going with it, like how Spottedleaf's "sweet scent" is always wafting around somewhere, lol!

That would be really interesting! But I get that, there's never enough time to put down all our ideas on paper... or Word document I guess, haha.

What do you guys think about the way most people draw/perceive certain cats? Do you agree with a certain design you've seen somewhere? Or do you totally disagree and see certain cats in completely different ways from other people?
Also, has anyone ever been introduced to a new cat in the series and imagined them completely differently from how they actually look/are described? If so, who and what did they look like to you? 8D

About the perception of how see cats.

I was actually doing somthing like this, I was bored so I decided to draw the style that others drew in, and drew a cat how I do to compare. (they were mainly people who I voice/have voiced/will voice for over on yt!) I found it really interesting, most of them drew ovals within the ear for the ear holes (I was the only one who didn't.) Only one drew cats with a square shaped head, the other were all ovals. I think I was the only one who didn't draw whiskers and with one I started with the character hair! XD

Ifound it really fun to do and alsoyou can learn tricks from ther artists by how they draw their art! (

(I've only uploaded one, because another is a birthday prezzie for them and another's half done and the other I not done aything with it at the mo.

Ah, this has always interested me. Especially with the fact that "tortoiseshell" really means different things to almost everyone. That makes for a lot of interesting differences in interpretation.

Also, holy moly the unnatural colors. Everyone's welcome to interpret the characters and color them however they please, but some designs... Oh my. People turn cats into Pokemon with glowsticks, which is fine for OC's but with canon characters sometimes I can't help but roll my eyes. I love it when people ignore canon and it makes sense, but sometimes people give a cat that's described as, say, "a tabby tom with amber eyes" something out there like, idk, blue fur with cream stripes and orange eyes. If it wouldn't happen on a real cat or at least something close (Redtail is an anomaly, I get it) then it's not how they're supposed to look.

As for cats who aren't as I expected, somehow I just can't picture Squirrelflight properly. I know that cats can't be so dark red but I always picture her very very dark. It's still confusing to me how they say that her pelt is much like her father's but then turn around and say it looks like blood against the rocks. Ah well. And I had no idea about her one white paw, either, until I looked at her in people's drawings.

Oh yes :'O I totally get what you mean on the unnatural colors thing. You're allowed creative license because it's a book, and no one truly knows what the characters look like, but at least try to THINK of the description when you draw them! xD However for the people who do a really good job, it's interesting to see how all these different people see one cat. It's especially good when the artist has studied anatomy and knows the different body and fur types 8D

As for this, that's pretty interesting! 8O I've always thought of her as deep ginger with a kind of swirly white mark going across her belly, neck and eventually to her muzzle. I can never picture a cat properly in my head if the markings/colors aren't evenly placed, so I like to imagine her with white somewhere other than the one paw 8) As for me - for some reason - I've always imagined Bumblestripe to be lean, but not bulky at all. I imagine him kind of tall, not lanky or anything, but bigger than Squirrelflight for instance. They always say he looks like Greystripe and that he's really bulky, but I just can't imagine that xD He always seems lean and pretty stealthy (and sometimes clumsy) to me.

:D Yes, I always love seeing a very well-executed tabby pattern or tortoiseshell pelt from amazing artists. The things is, I had barely even seen a cat in person maybe once at the time I started reading Warriors, so to me it was impossible to tell what they meant by "blue", "dark tabby", and stuff like that that's really not clear until you've taken the time to pay attention to all a cat's possible coat outcomes. (Run-on sentence, ahoy!) Also, when they described colors as sorrel- or bracken- colored, that really didn't help because I had no idea what those were xD The Erins (and their readers) seem to vary widely in their ideas about shades of ginger because a lot of the ginger cats' colors are pretty ambiguous. Sandstorm, Squirrelflight, Lionblaze, and even Fireheart are all pictured hugely different from person to person. I think it's really great when you get that moment of "wow, this person drew him/her totally different from what I was imagining... And it looks brilliant!" :)

I have a tortoiseshell and a tabby-ish looking cat, and I've always been around cats, so it wasn't too hard for me to imagine :'D And ahaha, I had the same problems with the foresty words I didn't know xD I think they were trying to stay within the range of what wild cats would know and see, since it's always in their perspective. So instead of saying... like, "Deep coffee-colored pelt" They'd say "Fur dark as a tree trunk's." Or something xD

Oh my I agree with you on the ginger thing :'D It's like, "Woah, woah, woah. BROADEN your color-range please." Because ginger can mean from bright orange to a yellow-tan to almost dark red, so every time they say a cat is ginger I'm like "OH BOY."
I totally agree! 8D I saw this one picture of Redtail that I really liked, the artist got his design so perfect :'D Whenever I go to draw a cat from the series I always look up different peoples' designs of them to get a good idea of what I want him/her to look like. 8)

We have 4 kittypets, black, dark tabby, tuxedo, and light tabby, and my friend down the street has black cat, and an orange and white tabby so i get a good picture in my head whe they say one of them, but with any other fur color i am at a loss. Wow i just made that one big sentence.

Ah, I got my first kittypet just five years ago. :D And yeah, the perspective they used made sense but I just didn't know what a lot of things were xD eventually I learned them and now I understand a lot better what they mean.
And yes, ginger is a really really broad term xD just like how "he was a dark tabby tom" doesn't really help either, haha
That's a good idea! I usually just use picture references for colors and patterns

Oh yeah :'D And that's great! Most of the time I wind up bookmarking a page if I don't understand something and look it up on Google xD I think the authors use such vague terms sometimes so that you have free-range to imagine them totally yourself, so it feels more like your story than Erin Hunter's :) But that's just my thought on the matter!

That's a pretty smart opinion! Also I bet it has a lot to do with the fact that there were three authors and an editor. It helps explain the huge range of descriptions and personalities in the books
